I have an 04 KXF 700, above idle in "N" i hear a clanging coming from the outpt shaft, The dealer said this was the result of a worn shift fork ?????
does this sound right and is it a hard process to replace ??????

If you have a 700 you don't really have a shift fork; it's a belt drive. When your in neutral, more than likely what you are hearing is play in the clutch.
I could be many other things but from what you describe and what I understand it's the clutch.

It rides nice, shifts into R and D great, when I shift into drive, crunch the brakes, then increase the rpm, I don't hear any clanging.
It just happens in "N" only when the rpm's are lifted a bit. The sound is coming from the right rear of the motor. so, maybe I won't worry about it..

Good description. I'm more convinced than ever the clutch is what your hearing. You might want to pull the clutch cover and see if there is any mud in the clutch. Just to make sure.

Just their tracks.
Never had the time or money to run in a NHRA class. I don't live close to a track and about anyway you figure it it's a 300 to 400 dollar/ day deal.
The ower is in the same boat, so he wants to sell the car, so it's proabably going down the road. I have a twin engine street rod in the works so I will be back in action in a year or two with more fun than ever!!!.

So, I had the opportunity to see more of the gremlin. This weekend I pulled it out of the feed barn for a short ride in the field (give the dog a run) I stopped the rig and placed it in "N", then heard that sound again, however this time it was during idling and it was accompanied by the vehicle going into gear all by its' self. So, the person I bought the quad from recently had a new gear selector installed by the dealer ship. I'm wondering if the linkage just needs to be adjusted properly ????? I played w/ the cables on the bar (no change) Is there a process for adjusting this at the trans?????

There is a shift fork inside the rear part of the engine, but I would check the linkage adjustment. Unless you can do the work yourself it would be cheaper buying a used engine on ebay if there is a problem with the trans.
You could sell your engine the way it is to recoupe a little of the money.
