Kawasaki stator confusion
#1
I have a 1993 Kawasaki Bayou 220 with a defective stator. I was able to find a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220 stator. The housing and insides look identical. The only difference is the 1993 stator wiring has 4 wires 2 yellow and black and red one. The 1996 stator has 3 yellow wires does anyone know if there is a conversion kit or a way to make this stator work on my 1993 ATV I hate to think I have to buy a 350 part for a ATV that is probably only worth 350 dollars. Any suggestions to make this work would be great.
Thanks

They use two different igntion system - 96 is DC activated and 93 is AC activated. So, 96 stator has less number of wires because it doesn't have to feed the igniter with AC output. All 96 stator wires (3 yellows) go directly into voltage rectifier to change from AC to DC. On your new 96 stator, there are only 3 output wires (and stator has 3 internal windings). On your 93 quad, connect the 2 Y wires from the 96 stator to the voltage rectifier Y wires - rectifier changes AC to DC and provides regulated voltage to the battery. And connect the one remaining Y wire to "both" Red wire and Blk/Red wire going into your igniter (CDI) - this activates the ignition system.
IMPORTANT - I have NOT tried this but theoretically this connection "should" work - no guarantee.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will attempt to try this. As a side note does anyone happen to know if there is a used parts distributor for Kawasaki ATV's should the recommendation you made not work. I hate to just leave it parked in our garage gathering dust.
Thanks
Thanks
