Did you check the deflection amount of the belt?
If the belt is too loose (even though it looks OK), you would have slower acceleration and slower top speed than what you would have with the tighter belt. If it is too tight, then the quad would start creeping when idling in gear.

Not quite a sensor...
There are 2 components on the quad doing 2 different functions.
1) Toggle switch gets physically tripped by either too loose or broken belt - this can happen at any time in the quad's life. The belt light would start "blinking" and the engine would go into limp home mode, 5 mph max.
2) ECU has an internal clock and whenever engine running time reaches 100 hrs. It will trigger the light on the dash to come on, just like the CHECK ENGINE light on some 80's Japanese cars at every 30 K miles. On the quad, the belt light would come "steady" on and would not affect the engine running. It's just a reminder to check.
I guess Polaris doesn't...

How do I clear the check belt red light that comes on after so many hours, even if your belt doesn't need to be replaced ?</end quote></div>
Go here http://atv.dnsalias.com/ and search around a bit for lots of info on your quad including the answer to your question.
Should have mentioned, click on Tech Tips and then scroll down to Kawasaki and Prairie area.
