I just purchased a basically NOS engine for a Bayou 300. The engine is a 5 speed with reverse and is chain drive. The guy did not know the actual year of it but he knew that it was from the last year before the Bayou 300 went to shaft driven. Any idea what year that would be?

 

Doesn't the engine have a engine serial number stamped on the side? My first guess would be Lakota 300 engine. Is it semi-auto or full manual shifting?

 

It is indeed a Lakota 300 engine. I posted another topic on some questions about it. I can look for a s/n if that will help me pinpoint the year. I assumed most references I would find would need the VIN to tell me the year and I do not have access to that information.
