Kawasaki mule 3010

It seems my 2006 Mule will not start. Normally you had to be in neutral before the Mule would start. The battery and starter are OK. It apparently has to do with the position of the gear shift. Is there an electric switch that monitors the position of the gear shift that may be malfunctioning? Thank you for any help you can give!

Some possibilities.
> Physically gear is in neutral but the neutral switch is not working and it is not sending a signal to the ECU. Bad neutral switch.
> Physically gear is NOT in neutral but the shifter is. Shifter linkage adjustment issue.
> Physically gear is in neutral, the neutral switch is working but it is not actuated because the shifter linkage is not making a full contact with the switch.
