Power Module on BF650i
#1
Bought a new 650i in the spring. I had the Moose power module installed right off the floor. A guy who runs a local bike shop made mention of engine damage from these things and long term use. He was basically talking dirt bikes, but makes me wonder...
Have to tell you, I am in no hurry to remove it as this beast is so much fun, esp. with all this torque. It wants to jump off the ground.
However, has anybody fried their motors due to this? Is this even an issue?
Thanks for input!

I would go back to that person and tell them to put down the crack pipe. I have run the moose module on both of my Brutes with no problems what so ever. In my opinion, I think it lets the engine run more freer. Keep on enjoying your atv with the module.

Your local bike shop guy was just talking about the possibility of engine damage "in general" when you use such aftermarket ignition module. He didn't mean it will happen on your BF. It all depends how much ignition timing is advanced. Too much advance would cause piston detonation. Aftermarket guys know the border line and they would not push too much. Like the programmable SuperChip module in my truck - it says I need to use 91 or higher octane when I programmed to HI PERFORMANCE mode (and minimum 89 for TOW mode & 87 for ECONOMY mode).
The BF's facctory ignition mapping is set relatively not too advanced when comparing to otherquads - 5 degree at idle rpm to 28 degree at high rpm range. Some sport quads' factory setting is advanced up to 40 degrees at the peak. That's why aftermarket guys have some room to play with on BF safely.

With my 05 750 I could tell a hell of a diff when I added a module. For some odd unknown reason the 06 650i motor runs much better than all the previous 650 motors. I was told that Kawi lightened up the piston rods and zipped up the stock cdi. When I added a Dynatek to the 650i I could not tell much of a diff. from stock. I just didn't think the little diff. it made along with the low speed sputter it had was worth the money. I had a Moose module around and through it on and it seems to run very well. To put it in a nut shell. All of the modules do not make as big of a diff. on the 650i as they do on the 05 750i. All of this is from my experience with my 2 quads that I currently own. I hate to ramble on but I only want to explain this once.

all good stuff...thanks.
I didnt run it without the module, but from what I've been reading, I think the only improvemnt I probably made was the very low end.
Fact remains, I researched, and I am very happy with what I paid and my choice. I love this machine and I am so very glad I got it.
