kawasaki prairie 400 4x4 backfire from carbarotor.
i have a kawasaki prairie 400 4x4 Automatic. dont know what year it is. but it has no mile or hour gauge. The electric start doesnt work and when i turn the switch on no lights come on.But when i pull the crank rope the head lights will light.
I can not get it to fully start i put some gas on the spark plug put it back in snugly and dripped a little bit of gas into the carb and when i pulled the cord for close to 2 minutes a ball of flame came out of the carb top where i had the needed vacuum spring takes out. It also has some liquid then on the air box and filter.
I got it from a friend as a gift for helping him out so much.

If you have a dead battery it will run like crap. I found this out the hard way when the connection at the generator came loose. The battery would die, and it would backfire and pop and sputter. My guess is that your charging and backfire problem are very much related. How old is your battery? How are the connections? value in Ohms of wires? Relay working? Lots of little things to look at. I just had to buy a battery again for mine today, I get about 2 or 3 years of use out of one.
EDIT: if your battery doesnt fix it, might try cleaning out the carb and adding a fuel filter. The fuel petcock is known to come apart internally and clog up the fuel inlet to the carb and run little black pieces of junk all through it.
