Default 400 PRAIRE DRIVE CONVERTER

I JUST BOUGHT A KAWASAKI PRAIRE 400, I THINK IT IS A 2000- AND IT RUNS GOOD BUT DOESN'T MOVE VERY WELL. I WAS WONDERING WHAT TO REBUILD OR REPLACE? DO I NEED A CLUTCH KIT OR IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE?

Your CVT belt might be slipping due to excessive wear - too much deflection. Remove the CVT cover and inspect the belt and the converter sheave surface.

I think it might be more than that, the clutch clanks and rattles alot. I have the cover off and the belt looks fine. The front snorkle has a hole in it, so I think it got some junk in it. THANKS

If it makes such noise, then the wear buttons on the drive converter are worn out, and/or the bushing is worn out at the shaft. Remove the belt/drive converter from the crank and run the engine on the stand. If no noise, then it is the converter.

Is that something a shade tree mech. can do, or does it take alot of experiance. Does the parts cost alot?

Besides the wrench turning skill, you would need specs for clearance selecting the correct shim size. Get a service manual if you think you would keep the quad for a while.
