Default kawasaki 700 praire electrical problem

I have a 2006 Kawasaki 700 praire 4x4. Here is the issue.. I installed a rear seat. Unfortunately the seat had a rear light and the wife (her machine) wanted it to work. Well, I tried to piggy back the wires to the existing rear light of the machine. I couldn't get it to work right. Would come on but not brighten with brake and was on as soon as I turned the ignition on. Here is the real issue. I disconnected the sucker and now the machine will only run for about 5 seconds and then shut down. If I turn the key off and then back on it will start and run for another five seconds. I checked the two fuses .. they are good. what the heck can be the problem?? help please. I am at a loss. Is it a breaker that I blew. Did I screw up the computer. It ran beautiful just before this fiasco.

That is an odd symptom. Are you sure your battery is still good? I've heard of many strange symptoms (not unlike what you are experiencing) that turned out to be caused by a weak battery. Did you try to run the motor without the extra brake light connected to see if that solves your problem?

Do you have a buddy with a Prairie 700 or twin peaks 700? If so, ask if you can borrow his CDI and swap it out on your quad to see if that solves the problem...if so, you have a bad CDI.

Good luck and happy trails...

Thanks ALL.... Got it fixed... Embarassing at best but what I had done was hook the light to a few wires that I thought went to the factory tail light. Unfortunately, those wires went to the roll over switch. 125 bucks later and it run likes new. Thanks again all.

Glad you got it fixed...did the new roll over sensor cost $125? Wow! I wish I had known you needed one b/c I have one left over that I could have sold you for 1/2 that price! I parted out 2 Prairies a few years ago and I still have several small parts left to sell (including the roll-over sensor).

Happy trails...
