Will a longer stroke help stop some bogging down on steep hills? This thing runs awesome everywhere except some of the hills around here are monsters. Anybody tried stroking a kfx400?

I honestly think stroking the motor would make it bog more if your taking it in too high of a gear. Just because the motor (after the stroker is put in) becomes more powerful, it takes slightly more time to make that power because of the longer stroke.

It really depends on how you hit the hill in the first place, and how you ride.

Too me...it seems like you are taking the hills in either too high of a gear, or not keeping it rev'd enough. Try it some more in a lower gear or rev'd a little higher.

don't take that the wrong way, I didn't mean to sound like i'm saying you can't ride or anything if it does sound that way. Just giving some advice since I have the same quad...

hopefully that helps.

I'm with Dean on this one.

You can get a new front sprocket on ebay for under 20 bucks. And you won't be compromising the integrity of the motor.

I've got a 13tooth front sprocket on it now. And I won't take any advise personally. I was on a hill saturday that has a root across the trail that you have to jump but when I got back on the ground it hooked real hard and I had to clutch it pretty bad the rest of the way up. I guess I should be happy I got up it cause nobody else did. I was just curious if anybody had tried the longer stroke.

Hey Zooooom sounds like you did all right ,on my Z I usually will hit a hill in 2nd if it's not to long or will if it's steep ,other wise I'll go into it in 3rd knowing I'll have to down shift when it slows ,
