Default Total ATV Noob, needs help

I just purchased a 2001 Kawasaki Mojave on Ebay for 1200, and I want to know what all it takes to take care of it? I don't know anything, I don't know when to do oil changes, how to do oil changes, air filter info, anything at all. I know it has oil, and a filter, but that about draws the line. I am good with my hands and am gonna buy a chymers (sp*) manual but don't know if it will tell me just the general stuff, any help or pointing me to somewhere I can find this info will be greatly appreciated.

Once you get the manual, it will explain in detail how to do everything. You can't over maintain your machine.

Most important is to keep the fluid clean and water free. I'd change all filters and fluids before you even drive it for the first time. If you see water getting in to any fluids, fix it right away before it becomes a problem.

The Clymers manual will give you a manitenance schedule. On a quad like the Mojave, you should probably change the oil/oil filter every 5 tankfuls of gas or so. I would also change the oil before storing it for extended periods. The airfilter should be serviced every few rides or whenever it is dirty, keep an eye on it because you can trash a top end pretty quick if running a dirty filter. IIRC, that model is liquid cooled, if so change the fluid there too. Besides that, bearings are really what you need to stay on top of with lubrication and/or replacement. That is one area most people slack on because they are a low maintenance item on most automobiles but require at least yearly attention on atvs depending on riding conditions.

Thanks for your help guys, I am super pumped about getting my atv, and want it to last me a long time, so I really appreciate your help. Will the manual tell me how to take care of cleaning the air filter and keeping it working as good as possible?

It should have everything you need, if it's the proper manual.
