Need help 2001 Prairie 300 backfiring
#1
Hey guys I'm a newb here, and I just traded my cousin my '75 Suzuki TS185 for his 01 Prairie 300 4X4 with only 950 miles on it! It has a very decent amount of power and does really well in my woods, but it has a slight problem, at around 3/4 throttle, it will get power, hesitate, and then backfire. It always does this even when it's warmed up, I've replaced the spark plug although the original wasn't too bad, and I gapped it correctly, I also tore out and cleaned the carb, which was pretty spotless anyway, but it still does it.
It does not have a battery right now, which won't be the case in about 2 hours as I'm gonna go get one, but I am running out of ideas and trying to go cheap and easy first, but I'm new to small engines and especially carbs. Any advice is very much appreciated, thanks in advance guys.

You must have a battery! without the battery some type of governer kicks in and wont allow the engine to go to full power. This may be your problem. This applies to the 400 which I have. Remember that without a battery, full engine speed can damage the alternator.

Yes, thank you, posted on another forum and got the battery advice as well, it was the problem, I was being cheap and figured I could just pull start it, but I'm ok with a button starter too haha. Thanks guys.
