Default suggestions for unlocking front end?

I have 2001 Kawasaki 400 prairie 4x4. I am looking for suggestions on the best way to unlock the front so I can have the option of 2x4 for better steering on the trails. I found a Warn 424 but from what I read it is for the p300. Will it work on a p400 and if so is that the best thing to use? Are there other companies to consider? I also read where someone was talking about a detroit gearless locker is that what I am looking for?

Thanks

The front driveshaft lengths are different for the P400 and the P300, so unfortunately the Warn 424 won't work on a P400. The Detroit Gearless Locker replaces the limited slip discs inside your front differential and are designed to lock the left and right front axles together. They won't do what you are wanting to do...that is change the 4x4 to 2x4.

I don't know of a product that will do what you are wanting to do...sorry.

Thats ok I just appreciate you taking the time to reply I will hopefully find someway to do it. All of my friends rides have the option to take there's in and out of 4x4 from the factory. So I had just assumed that they made some type of aftermarket product to get the same results. At least I know now that the warn will not work. Thanks for trying.

I've buzzed around in my P400 without the front driveshaft and I didn't notice much difference powerwise. I could slide the backend around a tad more with it in 2x4, but overall it wasn't worth it to me to try to make it switchable. You might do the same and take your driveshaft off to see if you like it that way. Could end up saving you some cashola.

You make good sense my friend. I think I will take the front drive shaft out before spending any money and make a run through the trails one time in 2x4 to see how I like it. Do you think I am going to see a noticeable difference in fuel consumption in 2x4 vs. all time 4x4?

My P400 gets around 20 mpg off road, the couple of times I've checked it. Personally I don't think you'll notice much, but I might be wrong. Let us know what you come up with.
