Default KFX400 probs

hey guys,

I jetted my quad (first time ever doing so, so bare with me here) and I am having some problems afterwords. I really would like to know how to fix it myself just because I like solving my own probs (not to mention the money) so I appreciate any information or help.

When it runs, it pops while getting off of the throttle at any RPM for the most part. I've heard that they tend to pop sometimes with aftermarket exhausts, but my buddies (with the same mods, just different brands) sounds smooth as a stock.

I also have a problem with it not accepting throttle at times.

and the wierd thing now is...the Gas valve (On, Prime, and Reserve) only seems to work when in the Prime position.

talk about a mess!!!

If popping is from exhaust - too rich carb setting.
If popping is from intake - too lean carb setting or air leak into the intake.

oh it's def from the exhaust.

I kinda figured it was running rich. The wierd thing about it is, I can usually tell from the exhaust smell that it's rich or lean. (not that I go smellin my exhaust all the time haha)

I think the throttle response might be from just starting up. It seems to go away when warm, but it seems like it takes longer after the jet.

With a dual exhaust and k&n set up I did not need to re-jet. I did not have to rejet until I started modifying my intake.

Your name would make me think you're reffering to the 700

I think he's a v-twin 700.

If you think your carb setting too rich, just for test purpose, try running the engine with air box cover off. And see how it runs. Also, read the plug. That will tell you something.

Ya, I over looked that the air box lid was off. I have recently modified my intake and have the same problem with the prime and does not accept throttle when cold. I have also noticed that it has lost alot off the line. Seems to be more problems then it is worth.
