Synthetic oil
#1
Does anyone know the pros and cons (if any) of using synthetic or synthetic blend oils in four stroke kawasaki after break-in? Also, does anybody know the manufacturers recommendations on synthetics? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

From all that I have read about the use of synthetic oil, it outperforms conventional oil in extreme conditions. In other words, it continues to provide lubrication at higher temperatures and between longer oil changes than conventional oil. However, keeping such in mind, I tend to agree with those who feel that it does not perform far enough above conventional oil for those who don't pull stumps on 100 degree days and who change their oil at proper intervals.
I also remember reading a post some time ago from someone in ATV racing who claimed that it can cause valve-stem and rocker-arm damage in engines that run at high rpm for extended periods. From what I remember, it was because synthetic oils becomes so elastic that it does not cushion the hard driven contact the two as they strike against each other.

I think as long as you change your oil at the times specified by the manufacturer, you shouldn't have any problems with conventional motor oil. I have also read and been advised by a few mechanics that once you go synthetic, you should never go back. They do not mix well with each other.
