Why is it that all quads are made rear wheel drive? I know that you would beable to do more stunts with a rear wheel drive quad, (like donuts, wheelies, etc) but with a front wheel drive wouldn't you get better traction, and handling? That is the main reason most car manufacturers switched over to front wheel drive cars. They could make a quad that is for mostly just recreational riding that is front engine, front wheel drive. Where the engine usually is there could be storage, or a larger gas tank,(or something) and the engine would be right in front between the two front wheels putting most of the weight on them. wouldn't you get better traction and handling? just wondering, not saying they should make one. Is there any one out there that has a 4x4 quad that the rear end went out and it's only front wheel now? How does it work like that? Thanks everyone.

try rideing a 4x4 with a broken rear end and you'll see why trust me it wouldnt work, the front end doesnt have enough weight and you just spin.

Yeah, and it would probably tire your arms out alot quicker, too.

Well, that's why I said that they could put the engine closer to the front of the quad, to give it more weight on the front wheels.

Thats what I've always wondered.I think if you unhooked a shaft drive in the rear and moved the engine up front and the gas tank back and down about 6inches and you would have a kewl quad that would go everywhere. Also move the seat more foward and the front wheels back and have a shorter wheelbase.

Atvs have a posi rearend, have you ever tried to turn a quad with a locker in the front diff? Then there the wieght transfer, from take off you would be alot slower with a fwd quad, because all of the wieght transfers off the front wheeels to the rear. Look at the import drag racing scene. Fwd car will always have a slower 60ft time then a rear drive. In fact anything over 450hp to the wheels is kind of over kill in a fwd car all you get is wheel spin. And then there is the balance of your quad. If you have all the wieght in front you will be noise diving intop the corners all of the time, it would cause the atv to be very unstable.
