Default kfx400 problems

when i start my bike i have to play with the choke in order to get it going.. it also back fires when i play with trottle. any body know what fixes it.. i pulled the carb out and opened the float bowel to see if it was dirty, seemed pretty clean. while i was at it i removed the jets and also made sure they were clean. replaced the spark plug. but yet it seems the choke stays on. i did mess with the idler probly at the wrong setting now but i did it to lower the rpms down. if some one knows how to fix my problems please let know and also how to readjust the idler (where is it you place the tach to read the rpms)
