Default Winch help

I have an 04 prairie 700. I just bought it recently from a friend. He told me the winch was replaced last year, but it does not work. When you push the up or down button, you hear a loud click. The click sounds like it is coming from under the seat. Any ideas??
Thanks in advance
John

Most likely the solanoid. Switch operates that which in turn powers the winch. It should go to winch.

Thanks Upnort.
Is that solenoid under the seat and is it replaceable?
Thanks,
John

the location depends on the installer but it is usually under the rear fender in the wheel well, it needs air so it doesn't overheat during operation, and yes it is replaceable. what name brand is the winch, mile marker is known to have a weak solenoid but they recently upgraded it.

Solenoid is aka CONTACTOR by some winch brand such WARN. In contrast to some other poster, when it goes bad, sometimes it doesn't make any noise because it has gone bad! Other possibility is the locked up winch motor. Apply 12 V directly momentarily to the winch motor and see if it turns.
If motor turns, the solenoid/contactor is bad.
If motor does not turn, then he motor or gear mechanism has gone bad.
