Default 1999 Prairie 400 Carb adjustments

Can anyone enlighten me on what can or cannot be adjusted on the carb? The only adjustment that I can find is the needle on the bottom, is that it? if so, where should it be set?

Thanks for your help!

Default Carb Adjustment 400 Prairie

My manual, says, Idle speed adjustment=Engine running and warm, turn the idle screw to obtain the slowest smooth idle speed. Pilot screw adjustment=Turn the pilot screw all the way in until it seats LIGHTLY. Then back the pilot screw out 2 turns. Hope this helps. NorminN.B.

Two full turns out and a significant improvement, I am idling smooth but still some sputter on the top end under acceleration. Thanks.

Just took it for a test run and still not tolerable under acceleration. Can you point me in the direction of the manual you refer to, my owners manual does not refer to any carb settings. Is there anything online?

try a quarter turn, more, open, if that doesn't help, try a quarter turn closed. Check the screen filters in the tank, u need to remove the shut off valve, to get to them. Are ur valves adjusted properly? NorminN.B.

It had been sitting for a while and would not idle, but would run great on "Choke". I soaked the carb, blew it out and now it idles great but spits and sputters under acceleration. I will try adjusting again, its just very hard to get to.

Did you remove the jets and clean them with carb cleaner then bliow through them with compressed air? If its been sitting, drain all the old gas andstart fresh.

Default Carb jets

ditto - if it sat for some time and the jets are plugged, you should make certain the jets and all the little air passages on the carb are clean. Soak the jets in some carb soak solution.
