the compression will not get higher when bored unless it has a high comp piston set or if the cylinder walls were scratched but it will only bring it back to stock compression now to the starter issue if you can get to it fairly easy take the wire off the starter and put a positive fed wire (connected to a pos side of your polaris batt and see if the starter does anything. and evrything evry one else is saying sounds good try that two. good luck get back to us and we will figure it out eventually

Ok, thanks. Tomorrow I'll try to get to the starter. As for that fuse, are you talking about the smaller wire that comes off the negative terminal? It appears that a fuse belongs in that wire but was taken out with the wire taped together. Not sure though because I always thought the fuses were in the Positive wires.
That smaller negative wire is the one that gets hot and starts smoking when you try the starter.

I ran a jumper cable from the positive terminal directly to the connection on the starter. It did the exact same thing and wires got very hot. smoke coming from the front too. next i suppose i'll take the starter out and see if it will turn out of the engine. right now i'm thinking its a bad starter or some kind of bad ground. still looking for ideas though.

There are 2 round things there that I honestly don't know what they are. The starter turns just a bit and stops. If I hold the stater button down, The smaller of the 2 wires that go to the negative side of the battery gets hot and smokes. Could this be a bad ground somewhere?

I was thinking that too, about the battery being too small. It does charge and seems to hold a charge, but I never tried to jump it right off the charger. I have a big battery in my Polaris, I could try that too. Maybe I can get time after work to go out and play with it.

I know just because the guy I bought it from said it worked before the rebuild, doesn't mean it really did. I just never had a cylinder bored out before and wasn't sure if that could cause a issue with more compression. I'll get out and try to jump it and get back to you guys. Thanks.

The round things under the seat, next to battery, are the starter solenoid-which is the larger round thing, and the smaller round thing in the round rubber boot, I'm not sure, but it does have something to do with electric starting system. Once the quad is running, you can unplug the smaller relay in the rubber boot, and the quad still runs. With it unplugged, the quad won't restart. I do have a manual coming soon due to this quad is new to me. I have a Honda 250X, and love it!!! The Bayou is a fun quad too, but was bought for my kids to romp around on.

I would imagine that the push button on the handlebars, actuates the small relay in the rubber boot, which then actuates the starter solenoid. But if you have the quad in neutral, engine switch on,key on,take a jumper wire and jump the starter solenoid two terminals together, and the engine should crank witha good strong battery. Other than that, pull starter out and make sure it's not bound up,or replace it. The cold cranking amps on the battery makes a world of difference when starting an engine, with a higher compression, I would bump up to a higher milli amp battery - You can check at a local battery supplier like "The Battery Outlet".

If you took a wire straight from the battery to the starter and it only turns 1/2 turn and then the wires start smoking, My guess would be a bad starter. Does the starter make a humming sound after the 1/2 turn? If so replace the starter. Also make sure that the grounds are good and not rusted or corroded up
