Default 05 kfx 400 over heating??

Hi guys,

I have a 2005 kfx400, bone stock.

Bought it last fall, and I have been having a problem where it will start to cut out on me after riding for a while. Thought it was fuel. Pulled the tank off and cleaned it our, and cleaned the lines. Thought it fixed the problem beacuse it didn't give me any problems all winter.

Rode today for the first time in the warmer weather and the problem came back. I shut the bike off and let it cool, started back up and it was good to go. Same happened 2 more times.

It will feel as though it enters some sort of safe mode or somthing, wont rev up. Is this possible?

Other important notes. Over heat light was NOT on. The fan was only on momentarily one time. Other than that, no fan. But ther motor it self was screamin hot.

Any thoughts?

next to the fan on the right side, reach up and feel for a plug kinda hanging there. pull the cap off and look at the fuse. if bad replace it with the spare provided in the plug. confused I know I am. Seth 03

Do they have a over heat safe mode? Could it over heat without turning on the over heat light?

Im semi noobish to quads. School me please

This may sound odd but it sounds like it maybe vapor locking check the gas cap vent line to make sure it is not kinked off also when it starts to run crappy stop and take the gas cap off and see if this makes it run better. I know it sounds crazy but it happend to me once on a 03 KFX 400 and it was the gas cap vent line it was kinked hopefully this helps.

Thanks man. I originally thought this was the cause of the problem.

After some testing, i ruled this out.

I also had that problem. I have to run mine on res instead of on. The fuel cuts out after 1/2 tank on the regular on setting....
