Default Stupid electrical question

Ok I have a 96 Bayou 300. 2wd absolutely no add ons.Completely stock, except for a new cdi and voltage regulator from Ricks Stator. My problem is the battery is dead, but I can jump it and it runs fine until I take off the jumper cables then it will stall and die.Does this sound like a stator to anyone.Or should I start smaller and work my way up? Thanks for any help.

Could be a lot of things but for some reason the battery is not charging. First thing I would do is disconnect the wires from the battery and put a VOM on it and see if it's putting anything out.

Agreed check the battery first then go from there.

not sure if I would disconnect battery while it is running,I would disconnect the atv battery start off car battery(not while in car) , measure dcv of battery before start....start and then with atv reved up measure dcv shoud increase .5 to 1v or so, (turn lights on)a good increase means the stator and reg are working ok
