Default 02 Prairie Problem

Hello

Well, I just got my first 4x4. Its a used 650 KVF. It needs some work but all in all it seemed like a good bike, until I tried using low. It seems to hold in gear (low) until you put it under load and then it skips and jumps into neutral. I've read the threads on adjusting the shifter and the loose motor mounts, just wondering if anyone had a diagram of the tranny and where exactly the low gear is and how big a job it is to replace the gear or C clip. Any help would be great. Thank You

Have you already tried adjusting the shifter linkage?
If you tried it and that didn't work, your trans dog gears are all rounded up because previous owner was shifting gears w/o completely coming to stop, rounding the gears. Replacing is rounded gears are easy, it just takes time. Split the case and replace whatever is worn out.

Below is how rounded dog gear edge looks like.
