klf300 head removal / jumped a tooth
hi all my klf 300 was lacking power top end. i have stripped down the top end (head) and found that the timing was out by a 1 tooth. i have inspected the valves removed and re-lapped them. All seemed ok. i then re-fitted the head, re-timed back up and released the chain tensioner. Instead of turning it over by hand with the bolt loose i decided to start the engine straight away as i thought they were automatic tensioner. it ran great for 5 mins with plenty of power etc but then started to miss and lack of power top end. i suspect that the timing has jumped again but ran out of time to re-check. The question i need to ask is should i have left the top 10 mm bolt out of the tensioner and turned it over by hand a few times or was i ok just to release the tensioner and put the securing bolt back in straight away like i did and start it. The reason why i asked is do i just re-time the engine and turn it over by hand and chance valve damage again or do i start all over again and strip it down??? . ps the locking pin on the cam sprocket looked ok and didnt seem worn down etc
