Default Prairie 650 twin destroying oil pumps.

Hello my father recently came into ownership of a Kawasaki prairie 650 twin. We have had previous problems with the machine, from blowing up belts, to destroying clutches, to a big hole in the crank shaft. Now that we get it all fixed up the next saga in this nightmare has been that its now decided to destroy all of the oil pumps that get put into the machine. We noticed that the oil light kept coming on and shut it down immediately and tore it apart. We found that the first oil pump was destroyed, the casing for the pump was cracked in half, the impellers on the inside were both destroyed, and broken into about 10 pieces. We ordered another one online for a heck of a price ($6) and installed it today. Rode the machine for a short time to plow the driveway and now the machine has the same problem, another oil pump destroyed and the impellers broken into a number of pieces. Does anyone have any experience with this or any suggestions as to why a machine would do this.

Thanks
Zack

We took the oil pump to the dealer and got pretty much the answer that we expected. A few months back we had in issue with the secondary clutch basically exploding while we were riding. When it did so it did what the dealer referred to as "grenading" basically when the clutch went it punched a quarter size hole in the crank case of the motor. From there we found small pieces of the case all in the clutch cover near the belt, as well as in the rear end, and in the crank case in the drained oil, in the filter. My father and uncle tried to get as much as they could out by washing the inside of the crank case with gasoline, swishing it around and draining it. They did this several times and decided that they got it all out ( hopefully) well we didnt is the short answer. The dealer told us we either got two oil pumps that had badly bent shafts which he said was almost impossible, or there were some left over pieces in the motor still that were jamming it and causing it to shatter. So as we speak were tearing the motor out to split it clean it out well. And yes we have a manual. The second oil pump we got was out of another prairie that someone was parting out, it was in almost new condition...Was.
