Help needed on a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220
#1
Hey guys, so my brother just gave me a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. It has been sitting under his shed for 2 or 3 years doing nothing, so I took it. I have done a lot of things but cant get it to start or run without spraying starting fluid on the air intake every 5 or 6 seconds.
I got a new battery, took off the carberator and cleaned it, took out the gas tank and cleaned it, cleaned out all the fuel lines, made sure the fuel was flowing from the tank, bought some engine conditioner and put it in the gas, added fresh gas, but I dont know anything else to do. Like I said it will only start and run with a steady dose of starting fluid, which I know is not good for it but I dont know anything else to try.
Please ANY suggestions will help.
Thanks

don't get offended cause i know you said you cleaned the carb
BUT, trust us on this one, NOW, i need you to follow this train of thought:
you have fuel
you have spark
your timing is good
she won't run on gasoline but she will on ether/starting fluid
that means she has a fuel delivery problem. SO, if your float bowl is receiving gasoline from the petcock and tank, then your jets are plugged. that's how the gasoline gets from the float bowl to the intake boot to the cylinder and valves. YOUR JETS. every orifice must be cleaned as if it was factory clean. it doesn't take much to plug them up. pull/remove both jets and clean them thoroughly. i use an oxy/acetylene torch tip cleaner pack.
some folks use a guitar string. look down the center of the jets also, you should see daylight through ALL ORIFICES. if you see unobstructed daylight, gasoline will flow uninhibited.
savvy?
now the carb in the video may not be identical to your carb, BUT, the principle is the same. peruse through youtube cause there's a lot of videos about atv carbs. they're all basically the same. some have more info than others. report back when you get it running or have any other issues.

Hey Jaster, went out and took the carb out and cleaned those jets in there. I wasnt aware of those things. I watched that youtube video and just did what it suggested. And guess what, it runs!!! Thanks so much!! Probably wasnt rocket science but with my inexperience with atvs i was able to fix it and save some money! Your the man!!

now if you ain't got a fuel filter on that thing, then later on it may ingest a sand granule or two and partially plug a jet. then your quad will bog down when you hit the throttle and probably idle just fine. there's a hint for ya, then you'll need to clean the jets again. have a great day and a better tomorrow. ttfn.
