I would like to know if anyone has had problems with the drain plug bolt stripping on their Mojave. If so, how did you fix it?

Auto parts stores carry "first oversize" and "second oversize" oil drain plugs. These slightly oversize threaded plugs can work where the hole is not too severely stipped.

Luckily, I got a 12mm oversize plug to seal a Bayou oil pan.

If the oversize plugs don't work, you're looking at helicoil insert; or re-bore and tap larger threads; the auto supply stores also sell "piggy-back" plugs, large-diameter plugs with removeable smaller plugs. The larger plug stays in place while the smaller plug hole is used to drain the oil.

My friend had the same thing happen to his Prairie 400. We had to retap the hole with a larger size pipe-tap then as we threaded the tap close to the gears in the transfer case, we would grind off the top of the tap and thread it another turn and repeat. It took a little while, but it worked well. He checked last weekend and all the fluid is still there and no water got in.

Hope this helps!

You guys need to start holding the wrench closer to the bolt to lessen the amount of torque when tightening them.

springdrl, I personally have only changed the oil in my 'MO' twice since I bought it new in November of 99. My local shop has performed the service every other time. My guess is that someone 'gorilla gripped' it the last time they changed it. I changed the oil last time and noticed the plug kinda felt loose. I know the plug should be 'snug' and not 'real tight'. My local shop is fixing it today.
