Default Kawasaki Prairie 400

Can someone plz help? My Kawasaki Prairie was leaking gas out the overflow. I bought a carb rebuild kit and changed everything out. went through the entire carb 3 times. The carb is clean and all parts are right. It idles fine but sputters under throttle. I took the breather out and placed hand where the filter goes with fingers apart and it runs fine. I figure its getting to much airflow and was wandering what to do? I set the air jet screw to factory setting and no good. i tried taking it in and backing it out both and still no good. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you need either a larger main jet (did you replace factory with the same size when rebuilding?), or it may help to raise the needle up by lowering the clip on the needle. Sounds more like a jet issue though.

If you have fuel coming out the overflow, this problem must be fixed first.

As I see it, one of two things.

1 - the needle valve thingy isn't sealing as the float pushes it up. If you have installed a new KAWASAKI valve, then maybe the seat in the carb is dirty. Use a Q-tip soaked in carb cleaner and twist it like a drill bit on the seat to clean the seat. If you're not using an OEM valve, then maybe that's the problem. I heard the K&L's aren't the best.

2 - the float level is too high. This adjustment isn't as hard as it seems but taking the carb off and doing on a bench makes it easier. The factory setting is your starting point. Do I need to provide the setting and try to describe how to do this or do you know?
