First post.

I am searching for an inexpensive used ATV to use for hunting of which I do a lot of.

I will use it for deer, turkey and Snow geese primarily - all here in Illinois.

I have NEVER owned one and haven't been on a motorcycle for 30 years - except an ATV here and there.

My friends say look for a Honda and while I am partial to them I won't refuse other ATVs.

Right now I am looking at the Bayou 400 1996. Its for sale in good condition for $1000. My budget is less than that but I want something that will be reliable and it will not be used all that much.

I cannot find any reviews of a 1996 model so I joined here for feedback. Any and all feedback and input is appreciated.

If its in good shape and runs good go for it. I never heard of a unreliable Japanese utility ATV of any model or year.
I ride with the person who bought my 1989 Yamaha Big Bear 4x4 to this day.
I just rode with a person who has a beat up 1997 Bayou 400 4wd and it ran great.

Its not your ATV but the site only goes to 1999.

 

I had three 300 Bayou's and never had an issue that wasn't my own doing with them. The 400 will do what you want just fine if it is in good shape and hasn't been abused.
