Fuel shut off
#1
A while back got a 97 prairie 400 from a friend that keeps good care of his things. It's less than 3000k. He said he never used the fuel shut off. I use it on my other 2 but wondering if I start using it on this one if I'm just asking for a leak since it's never been used?

If these carbs don't have overflow tubes, and, if the engine is subject to hydrolocking if the carb valve needle leaks fuel, then I'd use the fuel shutoff.
At least that is the advice I have as an owner of a Kaw Concours street bike. A hydrolock can/will bend a rod then you're looking at some big bucks to repair.
I own a 2000 400 but I don't know if the carb has overflow protection tube/s. I try to use the shutoff all the time.
