Cobra Exhuast
#1
I just bought a cobra exhaust for my mojave. It looked good untill I warmed my engine up. The header was painted black and I thought it was supposed to stick but it just melted off. There is still about 3/4 of the paint on the header and it looks like crap. It also started rusting and it hasn't been on a day. Is this supposed to happen? What can I put on the header to keep it from rusting or will a 1200 degrees high heat paint work? Is it me, or does this seem like a waste of money? But it did give me a noticable power increase since I got rid of the 12 year old stock header.

I dont really like cobra exhaust either. But now that you have it, get the jetting right. It will probably take one size larger main and that should do it. Then take the pipe off and clean it good with a wire brush. Dont use a dirty or oily wire brush. Paint it with high quality header paint from the auto parts store. Put on several coats and let it dry overnight. Reinstall the pipe and do not start reving it when you start it. just let it idle for a while at first, and then everything should be ok. This has happened to me on all makes of pipes with a painted head pipe.

This Cobra system really sucks! If it wasn't so cheap ($) I'd get my money back and recommend no one buy one! I took the header off so I could prep and paint it. After I pulled the silencer off water poured out of the header. The silencer is angled up too much and allows water to enter and collect in the lowest part of the header. This really pissed me off! But I successfully painted it and it turned out to be ok. For any one who is thinking of getting a cheap exhaust system, wait and save your money for something of better quality!
