Removing rear axle
I'm getting ready to pull the axles to replace the bearings and seals on my 300 Bayou. Is it as simple as removing the drums and the 4 bolts in the bearing retaining plate and pulling it out? I tried pulling one out of my parts bike today and it wouldn't budge. Is there anything else that needs to be unhooked or do you usually need a slide puller to get them out?

Here's how I removed mine without any special tools. I removed the drum and the 4 bearing retaining bolts and cover. Then I put the drum back on just enough to get the nut started quite a few threads and slid 2 long 3\8" extensions between the drum and backing plate. As I tightened the nut it pulled the bearing and axle out easily.
When doing the left axle, I had to put the seal onto the axle first and carefully push it into place with the axle part way down the tube because there is a collar that fits on the end of the axle on the inside that is bigger than the hole in the seal. I wish I had taken pictures because I know I'm not explaining it well enough.
It only took an hour and a half to do both sides and a lot of that time was spent cleaning the gear oil off the brake shoes and backing plates.
