Default 1988 Kawasaki Bayou 220 Shift issue

I am the original owner and recently she has been tough when shifting through the gears. I have tried the adjustment procedure but it doesn't help any.

I have read about the centrifugal clutch and main clutch wearing out so I took mine apart today to see what i could find. Attached are some pics:

I dont work on these machines every day but I was expecting to see the clutch plates smoked. Can anyone tell me of the above pics seem normal?

Look normal compared to a lot I've taken apart over the years, but looks can be deceiving. You can mic the thickness of the fiber plates, but if they are oil saturated/glazed,even they can cause slipping problems.Found that a lot.Same on the metal discs. Check for any deep grooving or any warped plates. Just my worth on this though. You've got it apart already! Replace the fiber plates, keep the metal plates if they check out ok,plus I'd replace the centrifugal shoe assembly anyway.. After 27 years I'd hate to have to install the old parts back in and have problems. May or may not solve your problem on shifting, but you could sure rule out a clutch problem..

Clutch packs are reasonable but I think the centrifugal pack is made of gold
Over $200
I guess this machine has paid for itself about 20x's over and deserves some love.

Centrifugal clutches usually work fine until the lining has gone, de-glaze and put it back. It will slip badly when it is worn out.

27 years is a pretty good run I'd say. Goes to show how maintenance and taking care of something can make it last a very long time. Then you read these threads about something brand new having issues. Kinda makes me think the old saying is true, they just don't make them like they used to. If machines last this long, then nobody needs to buy a new one every 5 years. That's not good for sales but its great for the customer.

I must say, this machine has been bullitt proof till now.

I am gonna order up a new clutch pack and deglaze the centrifugal clutch and follow up with some fresh oil and see where that leaves me.
Wasn't hard at all to access the centrifugal clutch. Worst case I will tear it back down, best case I save $205.

Thanks for the help gents, Ill let ya know how she makes out when I get some parts delivered.
