Question 2007 Kawasaki Bayou 250's

Hi all,
Ihave just picked up a couple of these great little quads and I have a couple of questions.

Need some tires, and it seems that the original fitment 21x8x9 on the front are now pretty much impossible to find. It seems that 21x11x9 or 22x11x9 are a lot more common. Given that the rears are 22x10x10's, would 21x11x9 or 22x11x9 be ok on the fronts?

1 other issue, the reverse cable lockout doesn't seem to work on one of them, so reverse can be selected without having to use the interlock. The cable seems to have the right amount of slack, anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Fitting wider tyres on the front may make steering heavier, I wouldn't go above 10" wide on your bike. Don't forget you can use tread patterns without much grip for the fronts. Not sure about the reverse lockout, I mend very few 250 Kawasakis. Check if the lever at the other end of the cable is working properly, and be sure you don't select reverse on the move.

Hi Merryman, thanks for the amazingly prompt response.

Tires sounds like what I was thinking. Don't really want to move away from what I have, but they seem very very hard to find for some reason.

The lever seems to move at the engine side of the cable, but I can go straight into reverse from rest with no lockout, so it seems maybe whatever locks out reverse internally is not functioning.

Oh I'm trying very hard lol, being an ex Kawasaki rider, where 1st down was 1st gear, not easy lol.

Grateful for any further ideas, don't really want to tear it down.

Someone may have figured out how to disable the silly reverse lockout. I always thought it was a stupid feature on any semi-auto quad but I guess some owners are so stupid that they would try to shift into reverse while rolling forward that oems had to pull a silly lockout on them. They claim its for safety but in reality its to keep from destroying the transmission and rear end. Its pretty easy to override on foot shift Honda quads as you can simply lock the cable in the activated position and just downshift from neutral. Not so easy on the ES models though.
