Default inline fuel filter needed?

I have the tank and carbs off for some maintenance. The petcock seems to have a built in filter but wondering if that's sufficient? I imagine Kawi would have added an inline if it were not. Thoughts on this? Thanks!

If you have the room I would add one on, can't hurt. I have added inline filters on all my gas powered equipment that does not already have one if there is room for it.

One word of caution with plastic inline filters is that they can break at very inopportune times, especially when cold out. Not a bad idea to keep a spare or a piece of gas line in your toolbox for something like that. Kind of a drag to be in the middle of nowhere with no way to get the gas from your tank into the carburetor.

The paper element type will airlock if run dry on a gravity fed system, like when you need to go onto reserve.

Thanks all. Based on your input I'm not going to mess with it. I just cleaned the tank, carb, petcock and new fuel line. The petcock filter seems like it was doing its job.

You can get a complete replacement petcock/filter assembly for like $10.

Use the same gas that you put in your car from a clean jug, shouldn't have a problem. I run Chevron 93 octane in all my vehicles, no issues. Don't pour the dregs out of some unknown gas can that you found in the barn, hehe.
