Bayou 220 is jerky and makes popping sounds

Default Bayou 220 is jerky and makes popping sounds

Hello I am a new rider started about Christmas last year and today I was riding my bayou 220 around on a little track I made and on my way home I was cruising in 3 gear and it starts jerking for like 10 seconds make like 3 pops and shuts off it took a while for me to get it running again and I got home but it still made the popping noise please help

Could be anything. Fit a new plug, if that doesn't cure it, clean the carb out. If that doesn't work, you need to delve deeper, things like the regulator, coil or CDI may be giving trouble.

Pyromaniac here. The fuel strainers for fuel/reserve @ the petcock on my 220 become clogged if it sits much at all. Pull your fuel line going to your carb, with the fuel turned off. Then remove 2- 10mm bolts that bolt the petcock to the fuel tank. These strainers become clogged with a white material that looks or what I believe to be parafin in the fuel. I bought mine new in 2000 and its happened twice. My next step would be to check float level.
