Default Kawasaki klx 250

I have a 2007 bike with only 500 miles. The battery is dead so I jump start it with a charger in the start setting on the charger. I can start it but it only keeps running if I hold the start button in on the bike but if I let go the engine stops. Could my dead battery be the problem along with it connected to the the charger and the charger being it the high voltage position

Charge the battery up, and if it won't, fit a new one. Then go from there. Some Kawasakis are DC ignition, like a car, but old (KLF) 250s were AC and a flat battery wouldn't affect the spark on an AC ignition bike.
