KLF/Bayou 300 starter issues
#1
Had some issues with my bike a while back and in the process seems ive done something with the wiring or starter issue as the starter i believe is turning the wrong way now!?
Here is a video of it.

Unless i am mistaken it looks like it's turning the wrong way it's trying to turn the crank Clockwise when it should be counter clockwise surely.
I checked the main starter cable is running from the positive terminal to the solenoid. Therefore it's wired right isn't it? As of course the starter only has one wired connection and uses chassis negative earth.
Any thoughts appreciated.

If the starter is turning backwards, it is usually because the brushes are the wrong ones. Never had the problem with Kawasakis, but I have fitted the wrong ones to Yamahas. The brush kits have L and R stamped in the metal, and the new brush kit has to match the old one. If you bought a new starter motor, it must be for a different bike.

No it was fine i fitted this starter and it was working fine. I had some issues with the CDI and ignition but fixed them, around that time i noticed the starter was wizzing. It's like ive connected the battery the wrong way?
Now i've traced the negative from battery and that cable goes to the chassis and the other heavy cable from positive (+) goes to the right hand node on solenoid!!
If i reverse wire the battery to test can i damage ignition etc?

No i bought it as a new unit about a year ago and when first fitted it, it worked fine. Only since i was working on an ignition problem with bike hadn't started it for a while then the solenoid failed.

Do not reverse battery polarity. It should blow a fuse but may also blow CDI or regulator. Check with a voltmeter that someone hasn't charged the battery backwards, unusual but possible. There is an epicyclic gearbox inside a Kawasaki starter motor, just wondering if it is possible for a fault in it to make it run backwards. If battery polarity is correct, there must be a fault inside the starter motor somewhere.

Tanks Merryman for your input here too, just jogged my memory i still have the old spare starter so going to spin that up see what direction it goes. Cheers.

OK i swapped out the starter motor back the original and now it starts ok, and the old starter motor turns in the opposite direction someone mentioned as a good ref the same direction the wheels turn, ie anti clockwise.
My new starter turns clockwise.
Old starter here (works ok turns correct way):
New starter here (turns wrong way and spins on clutch)

As you may appreciate i am completely at a loss and the quad bike company doesn't want to exchange it for me

Take a look inside the faulty starter. My guess is something wrong with the brushes or holder, Probably moved round, as the plate they sit on is positioned by a small tab. Though the epicyclic gearbox at the sprocket end of the starter is, as I mentioned earlier, a remote possibility.
