Lakota won’t start
Hey guys, I have a 96 Lakota 300 that I recently just purchased from my step father. It has sat for about 4 years and I tried to get it running after I bought it. First I pulled the plug and checked spark, then sprayed ether into the plug hole, reinstalled the plug and got it to fire but won’t stay running. It still had some old gas in the tank so I drained it and put in some new gas. Still got the same result. I pulled the carb and took it apart and cleaned it, then reinstalled. Still the won’t run. Is there something I’m missing or do I just need to replace the carb?

It is probable that you didn't get the jets clean enough. I would try again, blowing both jets and the holes they came from out with compressed air. Check that the CD piston isn't sticking, and try again. Also fit a new plug, can't hurt. If that doesn't work, check compression, after a long lay up rings can be stuck and compression down. A little oil down the plug hole lubes the rings and seals compression temporarily, but too much oil "wets" the plug.
