2006 Brute Force 650 4x4i serious deceleration upon gas release
#1
Hi everyone, hoping I can get some help here. I have a brute force that has an issue, at least I think its an issue. I bought the bike used in 2015 and have driven it regularly for plowing and a bit of recreation and I have noticed that when I am driving and let off the gas the bike slows down to the point where it actually lurches be forward a bit. Not enough to throw me off the bike or anything but enough that if I let go of the grips right away I would probably end up hitting the bike with my chest if I wasn't ready. Is this something that's normal? Like an engine breaking thing or is this an issue?
Also, this may or may not be related but whenever I drive on gravel, even if I am just putting around there is a constant trail from the tires in my wake. Not sure if that's normal or not.
Thanks for any help.

May be nothing to do with it but Mule 4010s had a fault from the factory which led to them suddenly slowing when going down hill on the overrun, not accelerating as you say, but it sounds more like this is what is happening from your description, otherwise you wouldn't be thrown forwards. Anyway, the fault was caused by bad machining on the driven pulleys for the belt. This caused rapid wear, and the outer belt sheave wobbled about on the inner one. Remove the back pulley assembly and check if the outer's rim can be squeezed towards the inner at one side, indicating a worn bush in the middle of the sheave. Not easy to check with spring pressure on it.
