Dies when engaged in gear

Firstly is the idle speed low enough? As revs have to drop low enough for the front pulley sheaves to move apart enough for the belt to slip. If you think the idle speed is OK, because of variations in belt width and length, Kawasaki put shims on the sheaves, so if the belt is a bit short or wide you can shim it, so it does slip at idle.

Agree with the above. My 2005 had this problem when I had the idle set too high. Lowered the idle and it would stall a lot, but run fine. Had to do the valve adjustment to get it right.
So if you have it idled up so that it doesn't stall, start by adjusting your valves or cleaning your carb, then get the idle down and you should be okay. That being said, I have very, very little experience. Just what's stated above. Pretty much anyone knows more than me, but I hope this is helpful.
