Default 2000 Kawasaki Prairie CDI box

So my daughter and I are working on a 2000 Kawasaki Prairie 400 4x4. When I purchase this thing it did not have a CDI box. After doing research, I found out that these are very expensive. I found a Chinese brand CDI box for an off brand atv that is a 400 cc

for $40 that looks like the plug is the same. Would this work for my prairie, are there any other CDI boxes that would work, or do I have to bite the bullet and buy a factory CDI box?

It is possible that the one you picture would work as the "off brand atv that is a 400 cc" may be a copy of a Kawasaki, but that black box could also be a standard Chinese CDI and you have no way of telling without the wiring diagram for that bike.If there are 5 wires going to your black box, find the wiring diagram for your bike, find one for a KLF400 Bayou. They have different wiring plugs but the Ignitior is probably the same, as Ignitor is Kawasaki speak for an ignition control module, not a CDI. These work like a 1980s car ignition with a 12v coil, and are powered from the battery, (pos wire to ignition coil from ignition switch). Check on the wiring diagrams if this is the case. Aftermarket ignitors for 400 Bayous are cheap, sort out which wire from your loom goes to which on the Bayou ignitor and connect them.
