I've been considering putting a Mojave carb. in place of my stock carb. on my Lakota. The Mojave has a 34mm and the stock Lakota is 32mm. If I do this, will I help power through the entire power band or lose bottom end while gaining on top or what? I'm really unsure of the jetting too. I have the Dyno Jet kit. The 2 largest for this bike are a 134 and a 138. I am currently running the 134 now, however I think I need to go up to the 138 now that it is much warmer out. I figured I'll need to drop down from the 134 if I go to the larger carb. though. I am around 780' altitude here in Indy. I'm really not sure if this swap is really worth it or not. What do you guys think?

hey 14! glad to hear from ya again. I haven't changed anything since last I spoke to you. I'm still kinda up in the air on which tires to go to. I wanna a Raptor so bad. The only way I could really get one is by selling the Lakota. I don't want to sell the Lakota 'cause it has other uses for hunting, camping, towing and so forth that the Raptor just couldn't do. I've just been looking for cheap performance upgrades for it. Get the track all done? How is the Raptor treatin ya anyway?

Stebob - I just sold the Lakota. Couldn't talk Sue into keeping it and selling the Bayou. I think she is afraid I'm too hard on it. I just finished excavating the old track and hauling it off and now we are in the process of building a full-fledged MX track, one half mile in length. Raptor RRC, the guy with three Raptors, is helping me. We have hauled in excess of 500 loads of dirt for the new track. It is really gonna be neat. I will send pictures pretty soon.

We went to Kermit Memorial Day weekend with about a dozen Raptor Riders of North Texas. Had a blast, forgot to keep the rubber side down once, ended up with a small injury. We decided to flip a coin - heads, go to hospital and have stitches or tails, rag and a little duct tape. It was tails. Should have been heads. Still suffering. Are you still planning on coming to Texas this summer?

I saw a new Kawasaki 650 in Fort Worth. It was a really nice looking machine, but all I'm hearing around here is Grizzly, Grizzly, Grizzly. I'd rather have the 650. It is not getting the credit its due from the people aroud here. I hope they all get the grizzly, so they can always wish they had bought the 650 after they get dusted by it. This week my parts will be in for the Raptor. They are; 1 graydon nerfs (yellow nets), 2 wild skins shockwares (yellow), 3 pro-design air box and filter, 4 dyno-jet kit, 5 Yamaha gyt-r pipe. The raptor is going to look like a cross between a cartoon grasshopper and a bumble bee. I am glad this site is working better know? Your turn. I will be back on line wensday night, got to leave town for a few days.

14mins - Yes we are headed to TX 7/30/01 - 8/4/01. We are renting a car to drive. Bad part about it is only 1 week off and 31/2 days on the road. Oh well, I haven't seen mom or dad for quite sometime so it will be nice. I can't wait to see pictures of your track. Hope your injury heals soon.

I may actually have a chance to ride a Raptor this coming weekend. A friend of mine knows a guy who has one and he is planning to come ride with us. We'll see. These things rarely happen, but I'm exited just thinking about it. What year is your Raptor? I saw that they are now using diff. gear ratios and axles for the '02 models? Do you know what the differences are? I've read many posts where guys lowered the counter shaft gear 1 tooth and it makes and incredible difference. Also I have seen the linkage being flipped. They say this too makes a very nice improvement in the handling dept. If you haven't heard about it check it out at www.raptorzone.com under the how to section. It looks really easy to do and others say it takes max. of 1 hour. I hope you will send me a picture of your Raptor once your parts are on. Sounds cool.

I'm with you about the 650. Everyone is now only talking Grizz. I would rather have the 650 too. I am anxious to see the shootouts between the two. I don't put much into the mags., but it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Stebob-are you driving from indiana to san angelo? (is that where you are headed?)To bad you wont go through DFW to get there. I live about 10 miles off of 1-20 out of ft. worth.I hope you get a chance to ride the raptor this weekend. One of your friends has a 400ex? Have you ridden it? Edlebrock is coming out with a new carb for more quads than just the 400 now. I saw a ad in dirtwheels showing the warrior,ds 650 and something else. Maybe you can get one to fit? We are going to try to finish the track sat., sun.,mon. I have a trackloader and dumptruck coming fri. evening. I hope to haul another 100 loads of dirt. That should pretty much do it. I plan on looking at another track friday morning about 45 miles away to get a few more ideas. I will try to get you some pics monday night. I did race my raptor 4 weeks ago at the mx track in weatherford, to decide if i really wanted to build a full blown track. I managed to not come in last, but close. My dad went with us and his only comment was " i never knew that many people are willing to hurt themsleves" I had fun but i have no desire to try to keep up with the 20 year olds clearing the triples.

14mins. - We are headed to San Angelo. If we have the poss. of leaving a little earlier than planned, I could reroute towards your way. I have not plotted my route out yet, I have driven from here to Dallas but not to San Angelo, so I'm not sure how I will be going yet.

As I suspected before, however, my opportunity to ride the Raptor fell through. The guy can't make it for 1 reason or another. To be honest, that is exactly how I figured it would turn out. Although an opportunity to ride a Cannondale FX400 as raised it's head for this Saturday. This sounds like a definite too.

As far as the 400EX goes, yes I ride it all the time. It is a very good friend of mine who owns it. It has an FMF pipe, jet kit, and K&N filter. Last weekend I adv. him of the poss. slack in the throttle cable. I told him what to do and now it runs just that much better. The 400EX doesn't appeal to me like the Raptor does though. I am someone who will not spend that kind of money and lose something as simple as reverse. The power the Raptor must have must be unreal. His 400EX runs good and I couldn't imagine a stock machine being able to just dust it. I can ride awesome wheelies on it though. The downfall to riding these things is making me want one. I like my Lakota but a true sport quad it is not. I am wanting to purchase a house, new car for the wife, and wouldn't mind having a newer truck for myself. So, I can't really justify buying a new quad right now. The Lakota gets me everywhere I want to go, including places the 400EX can't, and it does it with some speed and power. I guess I just have to make do for now, besides I can keep up in the woods with no problem.

I have to give you credit for entering a race though. Way to go. Was it on a motorcross track or harescramble type. What did you think? BTW-did you check on flipping the rear linkage?

Gotta run! talk to ya soon.

Stebob-the track i raced on was a motorcycle mx. plenty of triples, doubles, tabletop etc.I was pretty excited at first, until i got to the first jump. I layed back so i could get a feel for the track. I landed in the valley of the first jump, and second.By the time i got halfway through the second lap my friend was already closing in on me.I don't think this track is very quad friendly. I don't have alot of desire to jump 15 feet high and 45 feet long.I hung out in the back with the blasters.A kid on a 400ex won the race. He would probably won on a bayou 220.It rained here this afternoon about 1 1/2 inches.Hopefully it will dry enough friday so we can still finish the track this weekend.I am also putting in about 12 to 15 miles of trails. Our latest thoughts(raptorrc and myself)are to rent a roadgrader and build a slightly banked track around the perimiter of the track for racing.Riding the cannondale this weekend would be cool. We saw one at kermit. ugly quad with neat features. Seemed to have plenty of get up and go. Hope you get that test ride. If you decide to drive thru DFW you have to stop by for at least 1/2 hour or more to check this place out.More than welcome to ride the Raptor. My nerfs and muffler came in today. Already installed them. The raptor has to be rejetted know. Hopefully the airbox will be here sat.

14mins - sorry for not replying, been very busy. Wouldn't you know I did not get to ride the Cannon. Something came up at the last min. and I couldn't go. I found out though the guy who has it is a Cannon dealer, so my opportunity will come again. He invited me down to ride it whenever I want, only about 1 1/2 hours away from me. BTW-I've took a quick look at the route I'll be taking to San Angelo and I'll prob. hit Tulsa and then straight down through Dallas on over to San Angelo. I've informed my wife we may have a slight detour to Aledo, if that is okay by you of course! Oh yeah, I've asked you a couple of times but you haven't replied about flipping your rear linkage on the Raptor. Have you done this? If so, I'm just wondering what you thought of the diff. Other guys on the Yamaha forum swear by it.
