They are putting them on Canadian machines and here you have to pay $49.00 for them here. I smell politics on this issue. There is something that is put on the American machines (added cost, probably emissions related) that the Canadian machines don't receive so I think that is why they receive them. Chet

Y'all will probably have a hard time believing this. After I got my rear axle replaced under the recall, I wrote Kawasaki asking them to extend my warranty period the amount of time that my 650 was down waiting on the new axle and I asked them to send me a trailer hitch to compensate me for the expense of having to make two round trips of 80 miles each to take in and pickup my 650 at my dealer. I also pointed out that I had bought 3 new Kawies ( a 99 Prairie 400 4x4, a 2000 Prairie 300 2x4 and now the 650)in the last 3 years. A few days later I got a phone call from their customer service saying they would not extend the warranty but that they were sending me a trailer hitch for the 650. A few days later, UPS showed up with the trailer hitch and I now have it installed.

Those saying hitch doesn't weigh that much, why didn't they just put it on? The 650s weigh 606 lbs. So to put the hitch on they would have had to make something else lighter. I would rather have to buy a hitch than have them cutting any corners to cut weight. They also put light weight skid plates on them to cut weight. But buy some aftermarket and you are set. I think Kawasaki was VERY smart doing what they did. They should have made the racks optional also.
