you can take them off with no problems. Is it as safe? of course not. Kawi did not put them on the 87, 88 and some 89 models. I bought an 89 new in 1990 that did not come with them and rode it for years before putting on a set of aluminum nerfs. I did have an incident or two where my foot slipped of the peg on a big jump, but never got a broke leg or anything.

Just curious Jim, but why would you want them off anyway? I havent taken mine off, so I dont know what the weigh but it can be more than a couple of pounds. How would you rate your Mojave against a warrior or 300EX?

Are you planning on racing your Mojave? If you want to save a few pounds, I Suggest cutting the front fenders, because it removes the heavy metal braket that holds up the front fenders, also, you can scrap the coolant overflow bottle, if it does happen to boil over, it will just spit out the overflow tube, remember to check the coolant level before each ride.

I know a guy who took them off of his Mo because he wanted to cut back on weight. I ask him how much they weighed so he weighed them and they were 6 lbs. together. I personally would look else where for weight savings or atleast replace them with some alloy nerf bars.

good idea... no i dont plan on raceing my mojo but when your quad weights about 10 more pounds than the raptor you kind of scratch your head and say gee let see anyway i plan on keeping mine for some time and the coolant bottle removeal sounds great... ive never seen the level change anyway.... my bike is a 99 and still had excellent stock tires on it when i bought it for 2700.00 which ive heard is a great price... oh and it sure looks updated when you remove all that gear ie..mudflaps.nerf bars.. etc..i dont have the money to get my e-series pipe so in the mean time ive made a one foot 3/4" drill bit sized down to 1/2" so it will fit my drill and reamed out the stock muffler. did it help oh ya i weight 200 and im 5/10 so when the front end pulls up even in 2nd gear i was amazed.... it made that much of a difference.. thanks your guys for you helpfull tips and all and if your ever out west email me here in las vegas and ill take you on one hell of ride ...... Jim....
