tecate gears
#1
i just got ahold of an 1988 tecate 4 its completely rebuilt but the shifter is welded on and its not the correct shifter. When u try to downshift it hits the frame but it still downshifts, my problem is when u put the shifter all the way down its only in neautral i figured the gears must be in order of 1,n,2,3,4,5 but when i try to push it down again it hits the frame and wont shift.... i dont have it running yet im waiting for an exhuast pipe. thanks

Jeb,
Like me it seems you like your two strokes. What do you think of the new cannondale? I like the idea of a quick revving four stroke (since we won't get any new 2 strokes). I will probably buy a new quad in the next year or so, but want to wait to see what all the manufacturers are gonna come up with.

From what I've read about the Cannondale, it oozes technology. And I think the quick revving, lighter 4 stroke would be awesome and would probably make me happy considering what's available new today. But I like the over-all styling of the raptor allot better. A 4 wheeler really hasn't turned me on since the Tecate-4 came out way back in 87. I guess IF I buy new, I'll seriously look at the raptor. But having ridden neither bike, it's hard to say. I often dream of a raptor with a YZ 490 engine. Also too bad you can't just drop even a Banshee motor in the raptor frame as an option from Yamaha. It probably is a good bet to wait a year and see what Suzuki and Kawasaki actually offer too.
