Some guys I work with (I work on a oil rig) and I are going on are annual hunting trip 11/30
At are annual trip one of the main events is a quad drag race.

From what I understand (last year I wasn't thier) last years contenders were a bayou 4x4 300, a 86 250sx, and a 92 honda 300 4x4.
Now the 250sx won pretty easily, but I understand that the bayou had them all for the firt twenty yards.
Now un be known to me thier has been alot of side betting going on, on who will take this years race.
The contenders are a bayou 4x4 300, 92 4x4 300 honda, a grizz 600, the 250 sx, and of course my lakota.
All these bikes are stalk except the grizz has vampires on it and You all know what I have.

This morning I was told about the race and was told all but the bayou owner thinks thiers absolutely no way a lakota can even compair to the 250sx or the grizz.

Now the guy who told me this said no one knows of my mods and it's realy being beefed up as a large betting war.

Now I know how I feel about this, whats your opinions!

Gaff runs the race wire to wire. I've had a old sx and if that is one of the top contenders there is no chance of it beating you. As far as the grizz i dont know but i they didnt impress me at the gncc races. They are all going to be very suprised to see the little lakota smoke them. I love sleeper bikes. The lakota is the best one around. What are you hunting for anyway gaff and where at if you dont mind me asking.

We're going dear hunting, in a town called campti, la.

It's one of those trips that one of our venders have a very large hunting lease and pay for every thing just to have us come!

It's quite fun.

I was told buy my buddy that the honda riders are saying that thiers absolutely no way a lakota can beat a sx.

Gaff,
It sounds like you have a great trip planned. I just wanted to drop a line about your upcoming drag race. I want to clarify first also, you mentioned that one of the bikes would be a 250sx, I am assuming that this is the the old honda 250sx 3 wheeler that was made back in the 80s', if it is the same bike than I am positive that you will smoke that guy. The old 250sx 3 wheelers would top out about 50mph and were not quick off the line at all, if on the other hand it is a 250x 4 wheeler that started production in the late 80s' then it might give you a run for your money, only because they have a manual clutch, and he might be able to get through the gears just a little bit quicker, or if what the guy actually has is an old 200sx 4 wheeler than he would have to be on crack to think that he could keep up with you because those old 200sx hondas are about as fast as a bayou220. In my opinion the guy who is going to give you the most trouble is the Yamaha Grizzly, I say this from experience, My brother-n-law has a 2000 Yamaha Grizzly and in the drag race I have lost to him all 3 times we have raced. Both machines are stock (mine is a 98 lakota), on 1 race we started from a dead stop and he stayed ahead of me by about 2 bike lenghts until we hit the top end and then he really pulled away from me, from a rolling start I was able to stay with him alittle bit longer but he still pulled away from me in the top end again.
The Grizzly will top out about 65mph stock and the Lakota will be about 51-52 mph stock.

Now, after giving this long story let me also say we need to consider the variables in your race, 1) your lakota is not stock and you might be pushing up close to 60mph, 2) your friends Grizzly has vamp tires, I know this will cause him to lose some top end speed and also some bottom end acceleration. The deciding factors will be how fast you can work your way through the gears and how far you are racing. I believe this will be a really good race and would love to see it, I will definitely be pulling for you Gaff, I would love to see you beat the Grizzly, I definitly believe the Lakota is an underrated machine that deserves more respect than what its given.

No matter what happens Im sure your going to have a blast, enjoy yourself and dont let that 12 point buck get away.

If by chance the Grizzly does win, just challenge them to a race down the nearest trail. Not one of those bikes could even come close to keeping up with you on the trail....this is the true beauty of the lakota, that is where it really would put all those other bikes to shame in a big way.

dirthead,
When you put your mods on you will see that thier is very little resemblance to the stalk lakota.
The bike is the sx 3-wheeler.
I don't see any of these bikes as a challenge, I only comment because they are telling my buddy that the lakota has absolutely no chance.

slinger,
I ride mostly at the spill way in new orleans, although I'm trying to get to forrest hills.

Wich brings me back to dirt head, when are you going to have some time to go on some good rides.
I have the truck gassed up and ready for traveling. We could probably get slinger to go with us.
I know x-mis is coming and every one is trying to furtilize the money tree for the old ladies, but lets try and get something going.

I don't know about that 660 Grizz. Gaff. It maybe close. I can't wait to hear the results though. When are you going riding with the Warriors. I can't wait to hear the results there too. Straight line drags I'm taling about though. I'm sure none of them will smoke you in the woods.

Gaff,
Do you happen to remember the retaining nut size for the front sproket? I need to borrow the socket from a friend and it will make it easier if I know the size. Thanks.

300cr,
I'll be checking in a couple hours and post it.

stebob,
Its a 600 grizz, and I don't know either.
The boys and the warriors won't be here untill madi gras (febuary)

Although I've ridden with many, I just haven't dragged any one
wich brings me to some questions I have for you.
I took the quad out yesterday and tried all kinds of different things with the jetting and muffler.
Were I'm at now is nine disc in the IDS2, #134 main and three turns out on the air fuel mixture screw. I tried putting the c-clip on the second slot, it ran likecrap.
The combo I have now seems to run the best, real good Idle, nice throttle response, good top speed. Today I'm going to put twelve disc back in and put the c-clip on the forth slot.
I believe the jetting is good now I just want to see what will the forth slot do.
Now to drag racing, I've been trying to learn how to launch, yesterday I put it in first then lifted on the shifter and revved the throttle and dropped the shifter and went. I haven't been able to keep the front end down, and when I get out of the throttle then back on, it seems to take a few feet to get back in to full power.
I'm thinking to put the 12T sprocket back on and see how dragging with that goes.
The drag I have at the camp isn't going to be that long and maybe the 12T will get me out and through the gears quicker.
