I got my supertrapp today for my lakota. And i put in on and i heard air sucking around the headpipe. Did you guys take the front plastic off to install your pipe. And it's backfiring like crazy. I did notice some good power gains i can get a wheelie like nothing now. Did you guys replace that crush washer. will it hurt if i take all the disk out of it. I don't have a jet kit or filter. Thanks for any help.

Hay big bad,
Graet to hier you got the pipe.
I'm not sure what your referring to as the front plastic, but you should of had a bare piece of metal, slip the header fastening colar (the one the studs on the jug go threw) over the new header, then take the split pieces off the stack header, put these in front of the colar, use a piece of masking tape to hold them in place, install the copper crush gasket, then slide the header into place, tighten finger tite.
Then follow the directions on further assembly.
It is inparative that you seal all exhaust leaks. I suggest some high heat RTV (The Black stuff) on all the joint connections, Get it from your local automotive store.
As far as carb goes, loosen the hose clamps on both sides of your carb, twist it side ways, on the bottom forward the float bowl kinda raps around the air/fuel mixture screw, get a small screw driver and screw this all the way in (very carfull, don't tighten it) then turn it out 2 1/2 turns, put carb back in place and tighten hose clamps.

Your exhaust has leaks, fix them, after thats done ride it, if you have a problem with back firing coming off of high throttles, turn your air/fuel mixture screw out one more turn, this should take care of it.
For now use eight disc in the pipe, to many or taking them all out will ruin the bottom end power.
I have some testing I'm going to do tomorrow, and then I'm going hunting for the week end, send me a message and I'll tell you were to go from here.
Now ride the heck out of it so you know all what you don't like.

Since i don't have a filter or jet kit do you think it would be safe for me to run 8 or 10 disk i'm running 5 right now. So just tightin them finger tite.

When I was talking about finger tight I was talking about the head pipe, and then follow the instructions for assembly of the rest of the pipe.
As far as disk go put atleast six, and when you tighten the disc, don't tighten them to hard, it will cruch them together.

I wouldn't worry about running lean, your air filter will restrict your air flow so you won't.
The test I want to do tomorrow, is to see if I can duplicate or make a better jet kit out of the stalk components.
As are friend lakota300cr has posted the stalk needle seems to pull harder then the dyno-jet one.
Sense he and I both have the kits I'm going to try some things tomorrow and try to fix you up were you only have to buy a air filter.
The main thing rite now is to get the exhaust leak proof and adj. the air/fuel mixture screw.
Then ride it so you can give me some feed back, so I know how to twink it some more.
Like I said I have a hunting trip and will get back to you as soon as possible.

Gaff,
Enjoy that hunting trip and let us know how that drag race goes, I know a lot of us are waiting to see the results. Have fun and be safe.

You guys must be a lot of kids trying to learn how to be your own mechanics. OK, it's a good idea to know how to do simple work on these quads but if you don't have the mechanial background to start with, what's the use? Hence: "I broke off two of the bolts."
If you had used the anti-cease compound the manufacturer gave you to start with, you wouldn't be in this problem.
SuperTrapp, is very specific about how to install and assemble all bolts.
OK, so you've done the damage. The two screws you can't get out! If you can grab them with a set of pliers-- don't! Go to your local auto store or hardware store and get a can of Liquid Wrench, lubricant. Spray the bolts for about two days before using the pliers to remove them. Make sure you spray lots of lube on them. Next time you install bolts in the exhaust, you may have to remove later, make sure you have a tube of anti-cease compound on hand. Get that in the same place you buy the "Liquid Wrench."

I would agree with Gowili about getting the bolts out, but not about the kid stuff. Personally, I am 35 years old and have found that for me, if I want something done right, I do it myself. For example, I recently brought my 2001 Lakota Sport to a qualified mechanic (he works for Polaris and used to work for Kawasaki) who lives very close to me for my first time valve adjustment. He adjusted the vavles when the motor was hot and never spun the motor to be sure the valves were completly closed when adjusting them. I started hearing a lot of ticking a few weeks later and decided to re-adjust them (good sugestion Gaff) myself. I toke the time to check and re-check and re-check again to be sure the valve clearance was correct. Quess what, no more ticking. I am not saying all mechanics are like this one. He is actually very knowledgeable and helpful, but lets be honest, nobody is going to care for my quad like I do. I am a mechanical engineer and have worked with cars and engines since I was 15 years old. For me, I find it enjoyable and maybe have more knowledge than others when it comes to mechanical things. I know not everybody can repair their own car or quad or what have you, but I respect someone who tries to learn something new and work on their quad. Granted, you must know your limits, but you only learn by mistakes.
I would also try this with the bolts. CAREFULLY loosen the third bolt and remove it. Then you can remove the disks and work on removing the damaged bolts much easier. With the disks removed, you will have a few inches to grab with a quality set of pliers.
Listen to Gaff about the exhaust and carb tuning. It is not hard. Just becarefully, don't overtighen and go slow. I have a Supertrapp which I had to have a small extension welded to the headpipe because it was about 1.5 inches to short to make a good tight fit. Make sure the exhaust does not leak before you try to tune the bike. I stongly recommend an aftermarket air filter and jet change to really tune your quad correctly. I bought the jet kit and drilled the slide hole bigger with the supplied drill bit, but found that I have better luck with the stock needle and the the suppled #134 jet. Good luck with the bolts. Remeber, if at first you do not succeed, try, try again.

Great post Lakota! You're an engineer? I'm a teacher... Maybe we can help this guy, huh? That's what it's all about.
