400 4x4 prarie- How Fast?
#1
I held my 99 Prarie 400 4x4 at a top speed of 55 mph according to the speedometer when new. Since then I can barely acheive 53mph on a long stretch. I can't remeber if the initial 55mph run was with the tires overinflated as sold to me or after I lowered the psi to normal.
How fast does your Prarie run?
Has anyone done any mods that improved the already great power?
Will a K&N Jet kit make up for the power loss that comes along with 27" tires?

I recently celebrated the end of my beakin period with a top speed of 58 mph on a level gravel road. That speed was verified by my GPS as well. Experience tells me that increasing tire size may improve traction, handling and/or clearance, but your top speed will always suffer unless you beef up your engine as well. I've been down the road of aftermarket pipes and filters- that's OK for two-strokes but you'll have to get your hands dirty to get your Prairie fired-up. Following Tree Farmer's advice, start with a cam and go from there. If you're a spoiled rich kid contact Mickey Dunlap at Four Stroke Tech- you can end up with the same beast that Mike Penland assaults the GNCC with!
