shift problem with 1989 Kawasaki Bayou 4 x 4 300
#1
I accidently post this under Artic Cat also...Please excuse me as I am new at this.
I have a 1989 Kawasaki Bayou 4 x 4 300 that the shift does not want to come back into place once you shift...could someone give me an idea of the problem and possible cost of repair? I am wanting to sell and want to give a fair assessment of problems to prospective buyer.
I have a retail price of 1895 and a trade in of 1245, the ATV has a working electric winch and otherwise is in good running condition and has been kept indoors. Given the above problem, what would be a fair price to ask?

Hi pestosh
I had a 1989 Bayou 300 4X4 that had that same problem and what it turned out to be was a broken bearing on the shifter shaft. The way to get to it it you remove the clutch housing cover ( the right side of the engine). On the end of the clutch release lever ther is a small needle bearing about 7/16" in diameter. on my bike that bearing was broke. It was about 8 years ago that I replaced the shaft on mine and I think it was about $75.00 if I am not mistaken.
good Luck
